AML Officer / MLRO

About the Role

You will take ownership of the UK AML program and act as the nominated MLRO, making SAR decisions and engaging with UK regulators. You will design and maintain AML and CTF policies, review and decide on high-risk customers and transactions, oversee EDD, prepare regulatory filings and MI, advise product and engineering on AML implications of new features, and deliver AML training across the business.

Requirements

  • 5 to 8+ years experience in AML and financial crime compliance within fintech, payments, crypto, or regulated financial services
  • Prior experience acting as MLRO or Deputy MLRO in the UK or readiness to assume MLRO accountability
  • Strong working knowledge of the UK Money Laundering Regulations, Proceeds of Crime Act, and Terrorism Act
  • Experience with SARs, KYC, KYB, EDD, sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, and risk assessments
  • Familiarity with crypto and blockchain compliance, including on-chain risk and exposure
  • Experience with tools such as Chainalysis, Elliptic, Persona, or Notabene
  • Understanding of MiCA, FATF Recommendations, GDPR, and operational resilience requirements
  • Professional certifications such as CAMS or ICA qualifications are a strong plus
  • Excellent judgment and communication skills with experience engaging regulators and senior stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Act as UK MLRO
  • Make SAR decisions and submit SARs to the NCA
  • Serve as primary contact for the FCA and other UK authorities
  • Design and implement UK AML and CTF policies, procedures, and controls
  • Ensure compliance with UK MLRs, POCA, TACT, and FCA guidance
  • Review and decide on escalated high-risk customers and transactions
  • Oversee Enhanced Due Diligence for complex or high-risk clients
  • Provide final sign-off on sensitive onboarding and exit decisions
  • Manage regulatory filings, inspections, audits, and information requests
  • Prepare MI, risk assessments, and AML reporting for senior management and the board
  • Advise product and engineering teams on AML implications of new features and markets
  • Deliver AML training and promote a strong compliance culture
