Deputy General Counsel, Global Privacy
About the Role
You will co‑architect and lead the privacy legal function, providing hands‑on legal guidance on privacy security and AI matters. You will design and operate a global privacy program, respond to regulatory investigations and incidents, act as the legal point of contact for information security, and partner with product engineering and operations to ensure lawful data practices. You will build scalable processes, train stakeholders, and provide strategic legal advice on complex cross‑border privacy issues while managing and mentoring privacy lawyers.
Requirements
- JD degree from an accredited university
- Active membership in at least one state bar
- 15+ years of experience practicing law
- 10+ years of experience across product IP marketing and other legal disciplines
- Experience leading in-house product legal teams
- Deep experience in privacy security and AI laws
- Strong understanding of GDPR LGPD APAC and other global privacy laws
- Experience building privacy programs from the ground up
- Hands-on experience with privacy regulatory investigations incident response and breach reporting
- Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels
- Excellent legal and business judgment
- Fluency in English
- Based in San Francisco or Munich
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute global privacy and data protection legal strategy
- Lead and grow the Privacy Legal team
- Design and maintain a global privacy program including training auditing and reporting
- Ensure compliance with GDPR LGPD APAC and other global privacy laws
- Manage privacy regulatory investigations and regulatory responses
- Coordinate incident response and breach reporting with Information Security
- Establish relationships with regulators government and industry groups on privacy matters
- Provide legal guidance to product engineering and design on privacy and security issues
- Create scalable legal processes and controls to support fast moving teams
- Mentor and inspire privacy team members and act as a player coach
