Engineering Manager
About the Role
You will lead Platform Squads responsible for Core Platform, Core Data (including blockchain integrations), Developer Experience, and DevOps. You will manage and mentor engineers and engineering leads, own and refine agile processes, facilitate ceremonies, and oversee task management in JIRA. You will define technical roadmaps, drive architecture and infrastructure decisions, ensure delivery of robust data pipelines, collaborate with product and stakeholders to align priorities, monitor performance metrics (lead time, uptime, latency, velocity), and occasionally contribute hands-on to resolve critical technical challenges. You will also ensure platform components meet security, compliance, and scalability requirements.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering
- At least 5 years working as a backend engineer
- 3+ years in a senior leadership role managing multiple teams or squads
- Proven experience managing ~15 engineers as part of a larger 50+ engineer organisation
- Strong technical background in system architecture, data engineering, and infrastructure management
- Proven ability to manage tasks using JIRA and align work with roadmaps
- Deep understanding and application of agile methodologies including Scrum
- Experience monitoring and improving team performance using metrics/KPIs such as velocity, throughput, and cycle time
- Familiarity with scalable architecture patterns, microservices, and distributed systems
- Hands-on experience with data pipeline technologies, APIs, and DevOps tools such as Kubernetes, Docker, and Terraform
- Solid understanding of CI/CD processes and cloud-native tools
- Proven ability to build, manage, and mentor high-performing engineering teams
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
Responsibilities
- Manage and mentor engineers and engineering leads across multiple squads
- Set clear goals, provide regular feedback, and ensure team alignment with objectives
- Own and refine team processes and facilitate agile ceremonies (standups, sprint planning, retrospectives)
- Oversee task management in JIRA and prioritize work
- Define and manage roadmaps, timelines, and deliverables
- Drive technical vision and roadmap for Core Platform, Data Pipelines, DevEx, and DevOps
- Ensure delivery of robust, high-performance data pipelines including blockchain integrations
- Advocate for best practices in software development, DevOps, and developer productivity
- Contribute hands-on to solve critical technical challenges when required
- Partner with product managers and stakeholders to align platform goals with business priorities
- Monitor and improve key performance metrics such as lead time to changes, system uptime, pipeline latency, and team velocity
- Ensure platform components comply with security, compliance, and scalability requirements
