Engineering Manager, Scaling

About the Role

You will lead the Scaling team and drive performance, efficiency, and upgrade velocity across the Superchain. You will coordinate and deliver protocol upgrades from planning through execution and rollout, perform benchmarking and performance analysis, and improve tooling and processes to enable faster, safer upgrades. You will collaborate with product, protocol, and infrastructure partners and align with Superchain teams and external stakeholders on timelines and performance goals. You will manage career development through coaching, feedback, and development plans and act as a player-coach, diving into technical details as needed.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of people management experience
  • Experience recruiting, building, and retaining high-performing engineering teams
  • Experience managing geographically distributed teams
  • Strong background in distributed systems, protocol engineering, or large-scale infrastructure
  • Experience leading or contributing to benchmarking, performance analysis, and performance engineering
  • Ability to translate complex technical work into clear plans and priorities for diverse stakeholders
  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment with high technical and organizational ambiguity
  • Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate protocol upgrades across the Superchain from planning through execution and rollout
  • Drive benchmarking and performance analysis efforts to make the OP Stack faster, cheaper, and more efficient
  • Empower the team to deliver upgrades more quickly and safely by improving tooling, processes, and operational rigor
  • Build and reinforce a strong shipping culture focused on reliability, correctness, and continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with product, protocol, and infrastructure teams to set priorities and sequencing for scaling initiatives
  • Partner with Superchain teams and external stakeholders to align on upgrades, timelines, and performance goals
  • Manage team career development through coaching, continuous feedback, goal setting, and development plans
