Head of Engineering
About the Role
You will define and drive the technical vision, strategy and roadmap to achieve product and business goals. You will oversee architecture, delivery and operational resilience for critical systems and set engineering standards and processes. You will mentor and coach engineering managers, support capacity planning, and help grow technical leadership. You will identify technical risks, develop mitigation plans, and coordinate cross-functional initiatives with stakeholders. You will represent engineering in external forums and manage vendor and partner engagements as needed.
Requirements
- Up to 12 years of software development and leadership experience
- Proven track record as a leader responsible for engineering vision and multi-team management
- Strong business acumen and experience with business planning frameworks
- Deep knowledge of software development processes and technologies
- Experience articulating and executing engineering roadmaps across domains
- Ability to solve complex problems with data-backed judgment
- Proven people skills and ability to engage across levels
- Experience coaching engineering leaders and implementing goal-driven strategies
- Keen interest in cryptocurrency, blockchain, and smart contracts
- Experience integrating with decentralized technologies (nice to have)
- Experience in growth-to-late stage startups or tech enterprises (nice to have)
- Experience contributing to tech communities and events (nice to have)
Responsibilities
- Define technical vision and strategy
- Develop and maintain long-term technical roadmaps
- Lead quarterly OKR planning and roadmap reviews
- Oversee software architecture and delivery standards
- Establish service-level objectives and business continuity plans
- Identify technical risks and create mitigation plans
- Provide technical direction to engineering leads
- Develop management and progression frameworks for managers
- Review capacity planning and staffing needs
- Mentor and coach engineering managers and leaders
- Communicate engineering status to internal and external stakeholders
- Direct R&D initiatives and evaluate emerging technologies
- Manage partnerships and vendor relationships
- Evangelize engineering strategy and practices
