Head of Payments, Business Development

About the Role

You will lead and manage the business development team focused on growing monthly active accounts and payment volume. You will design and execute strategies for payouts, commerce, wallet growth, and vertical approaches such as international aid. You will analyze the global merchant payment ecosystem and establish commercial engagement plans to onboard partners. You will develop priority target lists, manage key relationships with payment service providers, and support efforts around DeFi expansion and asset tokenization. You will coordinate with legal, policy, and government relations stakeholders to support regional regulatory needs and help plan and run regional events. You will represent the organization at regional and global meetings and travel as needed.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of business development experience, with significant experience in payment processing, fintech, or crypto
  • Strong understanding of crypto payment systems and blockchain technology
  • Deep knowledge of merchant payment systems and global/local payments
  • Proven sales and commercial leadership with ability to build high-performing teams
  • Experience developing and executing go-to-market and commercial strategies
  • Experience working with financial institutions, payment providers, or fintech startups
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain senior-level professional relationships
  • Self-starter with entrepreneurial drive
  • Ability to travel as needed

Responsibilities

  • Manage the team responsible for driving monthly active account volume
  • Strategize and execute approaches for payouts and commerce
  • Develop and implement wallet growth and ramp strategies
  • Design vertical-specific strategies, including for international aid
  • Analyze the global merchant payment ecosystem and establish commercial engagement plans
  • Build and execute a priority target list and ensure follow-through
  • Manage key strategic relationships with payment service providers
  • Support business development for DeFi expansion and asset tokenization
  • Coordinate with legal, policy, and government relations on regulatory needs
  • Plan and run regional events and represent the organization at meetings and conferences
