Head of Regulatory and Government Affairs
About the Role
You will shape and execute regulatory and government affairs strategy to accelerate interconnection, secure economic and tax incentives, and ensure compliance with federal and state rules. You will engage directly with policymakers, regulatory commissions, and economic development entities, provide regulatory guidance to project teams, and counsel senior leadership on policy risks and opportunities.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in government affairs, regulatory strategy, or public policy leadership, preferably in energy, infrastructure, or related sectors
- Demonstrated success engaging with federal and state policymakers, regulators, and economic development entities
- Deep understanding of the U.S. regulatory landscape including energy markets, utilities, conservation policy, and public incentives
- Strong communication, relationship-building, and advocacy skills
- Proven leadership experience managing cross-functional initiatives and influencing outcomes at the highest levels
- Experience working in or with state utility commissions, federal agencies (e.g., DOE, FERC), and Congress a plus
- Experience with economic development incentives and tax policy a plus
Responsibilities
- Develop and lead a proactive policy agenda for energy, water use, conservation, and economic development
- Track, analyze, and communicate impacts of federal and state legislation, regulations, and tax incentives
- Advocate for regulatory outcomes that accelerate interconnection and support data center incentives
- Engage with federal and state policymakers, regulatory commissions, and economic development authorities
- Serve as primary liaison with federal agencies, Congressional offices, state regulatory commissions, and economic development committees
- Cultivate relationships with key decision-makers and industry partners
- Represent the organization before associations, committees, coalitions, and public forums
- Ensure compliance with evolving federal and state regulations affecting development, conservation, and utility operations
- Coordinate with internal project teams to provide regulatory guidance and anticipate policy impacts
- Establish frameworks for monitoring compliance and reporting outcomes
- Partner with tax and economic development functions to understand and maximize available incentives
- Build and mentor a Regulatory & Government Affairs team
- Provide strategic counsel to senior leadership on policy trends, emerging risks, and advocacy opportunities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align policy strategies with broader objectives
