Legal Counsel
About the Role
You will serve as the primary legal point of contact for the Portuguese entity. You will represent the entity in negotiations and mediations, conduct legal process mapping with Compliance, identify legal needs, and support Risk in assessments. You will draft, review, and implement action plans with timelines, and develop proactive compliance plans based on applicable legislation. You will manage disputes and high-stakes legal matters, identify and mitigate legal risks across employment, corporate, technology, and tax law, and provide legal support for mergers, acquisitions, and restructurings. You will clearly explain Portuguese legal concepts and risks to non-legal stakeholders and build effective relationships with external counsel and internal teams.
Requirements
- Portuguese legal qualification (Ordem dos Advogados registration)
- 5-8+ years post-qualification experience in corporate, labor, or regulatory law
- Experience in financial services or technology preferred
- Knowledge of data protection regulations such as GDPR
- Knowledge of anti-money laundering (AML) regulations
- Strong contract drafting, review, and negotiation skills (MSAs, NDAs, vendor and client agreements)
- Proven ability to identify legal risks and translate them into actionable plans
