Protocol and Infrastructure Engineer
About the Role
You will implement and maintain distributed ledger protocol components in Rust, working across the stack from the P2P layer to consensus, transaction execution, and privacy-enhancing cryptographic components. You will build and operate protocol infrastructure such as CI/CD pipelines, private and public testnets, internal test tooling, SDKs, and integrations. You will write comprehensive tests and documentation, benchmark implementations, optimise performance while preserving correctness, and perform and lead code reviews. You will coordinate with engineers and researchers and take ownership of reliable, production-ready delivery.
Requirements
- Systems programming experience in Rust
- Experience with AWS
- Experience with Docker
- Experience with Terraform
- Ability to work independently and reliably without extensive supervision
- Good communication and collaboration skills working with engineers and researchers
- Availability to regularly join meetings in evening European time (e.g. 14-19 CET)
- Willingness to travel to Europe for initial onboarding and periodic team retreats (costs covered)
- Familiarity with large-scale distributed systems
- Experience with network or operating systems engineering
- Familiarity with cryptography engineering
- Experience with blockchain technology
- Experience in database system design and optimization
- Industry experience in bringing systems to production
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain protocol-associated infrastructure such as CI/CD pipelines, private and public testnets, and internal test tooling
- Produce technical specifications for distributed ledger protocols and protocol upgrades in coordination with team members
- Implement protocols in performant and well-abstracted Rust code
- Document and test protocols and protocol changes comprehensively
- Benchmark implementations and iterate on architecture and low-level details to optimise performance while preserving semantic correctness
- Conduct code reviews and help maintain high code quality across the codebase
