Senior Legal Counsel

About the Role

You will provide practical, commercially focused legal advice on regulatory issues affecting products, payments and digital assets. You will partner with product, engineering, growth and go-to-market teams to assess risk and enable compliant launches. You will lead regulatory projects, draft and negotiate commercial agreements, manage external counsel, and improve legal templates and processes so the business can move quickly and responsibly.

Requirements

  • 5 to 8 years post-qualification experience (PQE)
  • Australian practising certificate
  • Ability to advise on Australian legal and regulatory requirements
  • In-house or private practice experience in a scale-up or high-growth environment
  • Experience advising on regulatory matters in financial services, payments or fintech
  • Experience advising on product and marketing compliance
  • Exposure to employment and privacy matters
  • Strong stakeholder management and execution capability

Responsibilities

  • Own and drive regulatory advisory workstreams
  • Provide strategic guidance on evolving laws and regulations
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Growth and Go To Market teams to assess risk
  • Lead proactive regulatory projects and plan for upcoming reforms
  • Advise on and contribute to employment and privacy matters
  • Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements
  • Instruct and manage external counsel, including scope and budgets
  • Develop templates, self-serve guidance and legal operations improvements
  • Deliver concise, actionable advice for non-legal stakeholders
  • Build internal relationships and influence cross-functional stakeholders
