Transmission & Interconnection Engineer
About the Role
You will own and optimize the interconnection and transmission planning workflow from feasibility through commercial operation. You will conduct load flow and shadow studies, evaluate transmission capacity and substation constraints, and produce conceptual designs and technical assessments for potential sites. You will liaise with utilities, ISOs, and regulators, manage study timelines and submissions, and translate technical constraints into actionable business recommendations. You will build processes, templates, and best practices to scale interconnection work and support commercial decision making in a fast-paced environment.
Requirements
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in transmission planning, power system design, or utility interconnection engineering
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or related technical field
- Hands-on transmission planning or design engineering experience at a utility, ISO, developer, or engineering consultancy
- Demonstrated expertise in interconnection processes, study management, and utility coordination across multiple markets
- Proficiency with AutoCAD (DWG), power system modeling software such as PSS/E or PowerWorld, and GIS platforms
- Experience conducting site assessments including shadow studies, transmission capacity analysis, and substation evaluations
- Strong understanding of transmission system planning and technical requirements for interconnecting large electrical loads
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Excellent organizational skills for managing technical documentation and study timelines
- Commercial mindset and understanding of how technical decisions impact project economics
- Self-starter comfortable building processes and working with ambiguity
- Creative problem solver who balances engineering rigor with practical thinking
Responsibilities

- Liaise with distribution and transmission utilities and interface with ISOs
- Manage study timelines, regulatory submissions, and study coordination
- Build processes, templates, and technical screening criteria to scale work
- Translate technical constraints into business implications and support commercial negotiations
- Coordinate with internal teams and external consultants to keep projects moving
